The Governments of Solomon Islands and New Zealand have advanced plans to invest further in provincial airport upgrades after the completion of the Munda International Airport at the end of this year, in line with the Democratic Coalition for Change Government’s (DCCG’s) Reprioritisation Policy 4.2.2.5(g).

The Minister for Communication and Aviation, Hon Peter Shanel Agovaka is pleased with the outcome of bilateral talks on communication and aviation reforms in New Zealand.

Earlier this week, Minister Agovaka held bilateral discussions with New Zealand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Murray McCully and the Minister for State- Owned Enterprises Hon. Todd McClay.

Parasi airfield, which has been closed for the past 7 years, is now set to re-open with its first flight scheduled for the 8th June 2018.

In a signing ceremony held at the Ministry of Infrastructure Development in Honiara on Monday 25 September 2017, representatives of the disputing parties of the Parasi airfield land came together and signed agreements with the Commissioner of Lands which paved the way for the re-opening of the airfield.

The Ministry of Communication & Aviation with Solomon Islands Postal Corporation together with combined initiative launches the new Solomon Islands Address System. The new system will provide solution for the long-standing challenge from “no address to new address system” and will continue to deliver new and technology-based addresses envisioned to cover the entire nation.
